9th grade Public Speaking Competition 2016

This year's 9th Grade Public Speaking Competition was an absolute ball. Our participants, judges and audience were all fortunate enough to have participated in this lively, encouraging and thought-provoking event.

Two of our judges that took part in the competition are esteemed English teachers from our High School department, Catherine Campion and Sevgi Siranli, and the third is always a welcomed addition, Hanzade Ozsu.

Of the topics discussed by the participants, the need for courses on Technological Literacy, the Keys to Happiness, the Fear of Being Forgotten, Turkey's Refugee Crisis and How to Win an Oscar were some of the more memorable.

Taking third place in the conference with an evocative speech on the perils of consumerism and our obsession with Shopping was Elif Gulin Petek from 9D. Up next in second place came Kerem Sabuncu, also from 9D, who had the crowd chuckling away with his speech on How to Win an Oscar. Winning the competition and impressing us all in the process was Mert Bektas with his speech on the need for classes aimed at Technological Literacy.

While all of the participants outperformed our expectations, the aforementioned participants bedazzled us with their charm, wit and insight in ways that separated them from the pack. This is a sincere thanks to them, our judges and everyone else who made this competition possible.
