International Baccalaureate (IB)

 

FMV Işık Schools has always been pioneering and forward looking in determining its philosophy and fundamental principles about the field of education. It also has been involved in restructuring model which is innovating and open to development and interaction. FMV Isik Schools is an institution which has implemented many "firsts". It is the first school which started providing foreign languages from prep classes after the proclamation of the Republic. It is the first school which removed the subjects of Arabic and Persian from its program even before public schools offering subjects such as philosophy, sociology, logic, and trade instead. It is the first school offering coeducation regardless of gender difference. It bears the distinction of being one of the first schools of Turkey which has introduced the Socrates-Comenius program.

FMV Isik Schools, with its 132 years of experience in the education sector, detects the orientation of new education trends and continues its development in the direction of future needs in this area accordingly. It doesn't consider education only in national basis and follows the international education programs as well, and shows that it is also a stakeholder of those programs by participating in such organizations. Schools are inspected very seriously by external authorities in the process of participating in international programs. This gives an opportunity for our schools to make a comparison with similar schools around the world and test themselves in the global context.

In August 2012, FMV Private Erenköy Işık High Schools was accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) which proves that it provides an education which is in international standards. In the 2014-2015 academic year our school started implementing International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) which is a continuation of the integration into international education. To earn the right to be an IB school it had to go through the same process in CIS integration which means the inspection of the physical conditions of the school and our courses.

 

The IB Diploma Program is an ambitious and worldwide prestigious academic program. It prepares students for both national and universities abroad, and helps them to be better prepared and qualified for university admissions. The program's unique curriculum prides itself in developing student's research skills as well as developing their global perceptions to better understand the world at an international level. The IB diploma program's intensive training goal is to raise young people who will help create a better and more peaceful world by being respectful, inquiring, knowledgeable and caring individuals. Erenköy Işık High School - Educational Philosophy

 

Erenköy Işık High School has adopted the idea of 'raising good citizens' as the first and foremost guiding principle in their educational philosophy in order to compromise between 100 years of history in education and transitional changes, taking the universal values as basis. It is our aim that the students will be able to express their ideas and emotions freely within democratic boundaries and will analyse and become aware of their own culture. Based on student-centred education and active learning, modern learning methods are supported with interdisciplinary collaboration. Taking the skills, talents and interests of the individuals into account, students are aimed to be raised as thinking, inquiring, questioning individuals who apply the teachings to their life.

 

While preparing students intellectually for higher education and real life, we aim to accomplish our mission by enabling students to become excellent in their mother-tongue, good users of more than one foreign language, develop tolerance towards other cultures and be forward-thinking in maths and science. In addition, we aim to develop ethical awareness in students related to art, literature and sports. We also aim to raise students who are an environmentally aware, life-long learners with a sense of history, have social consciousness, and hold both national and universal identity.

International Baccalaureate Organization

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission, focused on the student founded in 1968. The four programmes for students aged 3 to 19 help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. IBO currently works with 3,676 schools in 146 countries to develop and offer four challenging programmes motivated by a mission to create a better world through education.

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

What is IB Diploma Program?

The IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous, two-year pre-university course of study designed for high school students in the 16 to 19 age range. Language of the program is English except for the courses Turkish Literature and Turkey in the 20th Century. The program in FMV Erenköy Işık High School, which is planned to start in the academic year of 2014-2015, will be implemented for 10th and 11th Grade level students. The program ends by the time students reach the November exam period of 12th Grade level.

IB curriculum and its practices aim to reach all the targets needed to develop the traits in the above mentioned IB learner profile. The balance between various principles of the program and academic background is important. Furthermore, academic growth and success in the lessons are not sufficient for personal fulfilment and happiness. Students are expected to give importance to physical education and they have to be involved with one sport throughout the program. Students are also aware of the fact that personal fulfilment lies within helping others and sharing their learning and skills with everyone that needs around them.

Based on the above mentioned ideas, students become a part of community service for two years. In addition to this, students must develop one profession in order to keep their creative light alive throughout the two-year program. At the end of this process, students must review their experiences and depict them in terms of formal writing.

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. The programme, has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities.
